Cats and Kittens too!!
How much is it to adopt kittens from A Freedom Journey? The first kitten’s adoption fee is $150. The second kitten’s adoption fee is $100.
Am I required to adopt two kittens? Yes, we strongly encourage adopters to adopt two kittens or adopt the mother and one of her kittens. Kittens adjust and thrive better in pairs. If you already have a cat or dog at home who you know will adjust well to having a kitten, adopting one kitten is welcome. What is included in the adoption fee?
Your kittens will come home to you:
1) Litter box trained
2) Eating solid food
3) Spayed or neutered
4) Dewormed
5) Microchipped
6) Vaccinated with the following vaccines: 1-year rabies and two of their three FVRCP vaccines
Will my kittens or cat be triple tested (FeLV, FIV, Heartworm)? The mother of litters will be tested, but not individual kittens. The Queen’s triple test results will be included in your kitten's medical record you will receive from A freedom Journey. If the mother cat was not present, no triple test will be done.
Will my kittens have a fecal test done? Yes, all kittens are also dewormed. Fecal test results and deworming dates and amounts will be included in your kitten's medical record you will receive from A Freedom Journey.
Which parasite prevention do you recommend?
For indoor kittens: Revolution Plus or a Seresto collar
For kittens or cats that go outside, we recommend Revolution Plus. We do NOT recommend the Seresto collar for kittens or cats that go outside for two reasons:
1) The Seresto collar does not protect cats from mosquitoes. Cats and kittens that go outside need to be protected from mosquitoes because mosquitoes transfer heartworms.
2) Due to cats climbing trees, crawling through and hiding in tight spaces, cats who go outside should only wear breakaway collars for their safety. Seresto collars, and most other flea collars, will not allow a cat to breakaway and that can be fatal.
What is the vaccine series schedule for my kitten?
9-10 weeks: FVRCP1
11-13 weeks: FVRCP2 and Rabies
All cats will receive their rabies vaccine during their spay or neuter appointment. Rabies certificate will be included in your kitten's medical record.
What age can I bring my new kittens home? Kittens go home to their new family after they have been spayed or neutered; approximately 12-15 weeks. A kitten must be 3 pounds to be spayed or neutered. Each kitten reaches that goal at different times, but usually by 12-15 weeks of age.
What do I need to do after my kittens come home with me? Please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for two weeks after their spay or neuter for the following:
1) To establish care for your new kittens
2) For your veterinarian to check your kitten’s surgery site to confirm it has healed properly
3) For your veterinarian to administer your kitten’s third and final FVRCP vaccine. This date will be on your kittens’ vaccine record
4) For your veterinarian to begin administering the FeLV vaccine series if your kitten is going to go outside at all, or be exposed to any cats that go outside
5) Discuss getting your kitten triple tested, as only the Queen (mother cat) is tested
6) Discuss the best parasite prevention for your cat and their lifestyle.
